Long Ago.....

Long ago, in a distant land, there ruled a wise and good king. He loved his people, and he wanted to know how they lived---
their joys and fears, their pleasures and hardships.
So the king dressed in the clothes of a workingman or a beggar, and went out among the people of his kingdom. No one suspected that this humble-looking man was actually the king of their country.
One day, the king visited a very poor man who lived in a damp, dark basement. The king spoke cheerful words to his host, and shared in his coarse, simple food.
A few weeks later, the king visited the poor man again, but this time as a king. The king expected the man to ask for some gift or favor, but he didn't. Instead, the man fell at the king's feet.
"You left your palace and glory to visit me in this dark and dreary place," he cried, "You ate my plain, humble food. You brought gladness to my heart!"
Tears running down his cheeks, he continued," You have given others your rich gifts, but to me you have given yourself!"
The King of glory, The Lord Jesus Christ, gave Himself to you and to me.
"Thanks be unto God for His unspeakable gift."
(2 Corinthians 9:15)

This was written in my older children's weekly Bible lesson. I loved it and thought I would share!
