Discouragement is a word that everyone all over the world understands. Some fall into it more easily than others. It seems as the earth gets closer and closer to the end of times, people are falling into this "discouragement" more and more. Strangely enough, traveling to a third world country, people don't "seem" to be as discouraged as we are here in America! Why, we have it all!! We have all of the modern conveniences that money can by, but we still aren't happy. We depend on our money, more than we depend upon God it seems. I believe we are all at fault in this area, at one time or another.
Our family has been studying the life of Elijah. This week, it's a study of Mt. Carmel, where Elijah told King Ahab to bring his "Baal Prophets" up the mountain, where truth could be told...God is all powerful and He can keep Satan and his evil angels away, if we do His will and obey His commandments. If any of you are caught in this depression/discouragement, let me share some words with you....
Into the experience of all there come times of keen disappointment and utter discouragement- days when sorrow is the portion, and it is hard to believe that God is still the kind benefactor of His earthborn children; days when troubles harass the soul, till death seems preferable to life. It is then that many lose their hold on God and are brought into the slavery of doubt, the bondage of unbelief. Could we at such times discern the spiritual insight the meaning of God's providence's we should see angels seeking to save us from ourselves, striving to plant our feet upon a foundation more firm than the everlasting hills, and new faith, new life, would spring into being.
For the disheartened there is a sure remedy- faith, prayer, work. Faith and activity will impart assurance and satisfaction that will increase day by day. Are you tempted to give way to feelings of anxious foreboding or utter despondency? In the darkest days, when appearances seem most forbidding, fear not! Have faith in God. He knows your need. He has all the power. His infinite love and compassion never weary. Fear not that He will fail of fulfilling His promise. He is eternal truth. Never will He change the covenant He has has made with those who love Him.
Prophets and Kings..pgs. 162-164
I have been praying a lot for my friends and family and for some reason the Lord has laid this on my heart. We all are in need of prayer and we all fall into depression and discouragement so easily. If we will just look to the Saviour, He has promised He will see us through! He has already won this great controversy that we are in! Isn't that exciting news, brothers and sisters? And I believe it to be true! God bless you and keep Him in all you do!
