Labor Day Weekend

We take this weekend for it's name! I am so thankful for a restful Sabbath, because when Sunday rolls around....we mean business! Today, we got up and went and bought two new chains for the chain saw and 15 bags of cement. When we got home, we all pitched in and cut down some locusts (that are trying to take over our walnut tree), hauled it all to the burn pile and raked up the area, for when the walnuts fall, this fall. We have a problem this year with our walnuts, though. We have squirrels! I love watching the little guys, but they are knocking down all of my walnuts pre-maturely! Whatcha' gonna do? Anyway, after that I made eight loaves of bread (in my new mixer!! Love it!!) and while I was on the last four loaves I made lunch. Well, while making lunch I used my Pampered Chef pineapple slicer...it works and works well. My thumbs will never be the same. I am a pretty tough person, but wow! I almost fainted with the cut on my right thumb. The left thumb isn't that bad. So, if you have one of those....be careful! After I got the bread in the oven and everyone was fed...I started staining our deck. I just have the floor of it to finish and I will do that tonight after the kiddo's are in bed. I am so thankful for a 3-day weekend after just starting school. It helps prepare the mind and body for the many weeks ahead where there will be no breaks, with the exception of the weekends!
Boy, it sure felt like fall was in the air this morning! I LOVE fall!! It's so exciting to get back into a routine and be able to harvest and prepare all that you have worked on all summer for.
The two older boys are down at the river fishing and swimming...the others are out at the pool with their daddy...so I better go and join them!
Isn't this an amazing garden? No, unfortunately it isn't ours. This was a picture from the magazine, "Above Rubies". It is in the state of Tennessee. I wonder what type of soil they have? Wow!! Gorgeous!

  1. Tennessee - I used to live there. It's not the soil, its all the RAIN!!! And HOT weather, of course.

Bri can commiserate with you. She nearly fainted Friday when she almost cut her little finger off with a brand new exacto knife.
